North East Foot & Ankle Surgery
Welcome to our practice in the North East England setup by Mr Rajiv Limaye, a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in trauma, knee arthroscopy and surgery of the foot and ankle. This service is based in the Darlington and Stockton on Tees, covering a large area of North Yorkshire and North-East England.
Mr Rajiv Limaye works as Lead Foot/Ankle surgeon at University hospital of North Tees and Hartlepool since April 2014. Prior to this he was a Consultant at South Tees University hospital between 2005- 2014. specialising in Foot and Ankle surgery. His move to North Tees hospital was to the expand the existing foot/ankle service. Mr Limaye also undertakes his trauma on call at North Tees hospital to keep his fracture fixation skills updated.
Mr Limaye has gained extensive Orthopaedic surgery training and experience since 1990 and has worked in various hospitals during his training in both India and UK. He has gained fellowship level training in Foot and Ankle surgery in the UK and abroad. He has been working as NHS consultant since 2005. Mr Rajiv's special interest lies in bunion surgery, arthroscopic (key hole) surgery to foot and ankle for sports injuries, ankle osteotomy and replacements of the big toes. He has been recently involved in a large national multi-centre audit performing total joint replacement for big toe arthritis.
Mr Rajiv works very closely with a team of specialists. He likes to particularly work closely with his radiologists who are specialised in reporting and intervention
His clinics are supported by dedicated foot and ankle physiotherapists.
In addition to his clinical appointments, Mr Limaye holds a place in the court of examiners for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh. He assists in MRCS and FRCS Orth examinations both nationally and internationally. He currently examines in London, Edinburgh, Egypt, India, Cyprus, UAE, Sri Lanka and Kenya. He has been invited to some new centres such as Malaysia and Cyprus.
Mr Rajiv Limaye has been a past trainer in northern orthopaedic training rotation. He now hosts a nationally accredited BOA foot/ankle fellow. He holds a position of a revalidation lead at the North Tees Hospital and regularly appraises junior doctors and colleagues. He examines the final year medical students for the Newcastle medical school. The University of Teesside has recognised his teaching roles and conferred upon on him the title of Honorary Lecturer since 2011.
Mr Rajiv Limaye sees both private and NHS patients from BMI Woodlands Hospital based in Darlington and Nuffield Hospital Tees, in Stockton on Tees. He holds three clinics a week at BMI Woodlands hospital and a twice weekly clinic at Nuffield hospital, Stockton on Tees. His clinics at North Tees hospital is on Tuesdays every week. He regularly operates four times a week, both privately and in the NHS.
